DATS is the Danish federation of amateur theatres, representing about 1.800 members - individual members as well as theatre groups, schools and institutions.
Our membership covers many different areas of theatre, ranging from classical and traditional to experimental theatre forms, and including children's and youth theatre.
DATS has a set of values as well as a mission. The set of values says: "Theatre combines artistic qualities with human development", which is the DATS motto or statement. The mission is to promote dramatic activities.
Primary t.g: Amateur theatre groups, independent theatre groups, Drama schools
Secondary t.g: Primarily schools, Folk high schools, High schools etc.
DATS is an umbrella organization taking care of the interests of the non-professional theatre area in Denmark. The activities comprise advisory support, PR, lobbying, supporting activities, projects and productions, theatre courses and workshops, education and information, festival and conferences.
Members can make use of the advisory service free of charge for getting advice and sparring in connection with their theatre productions. DATS receives an annual support from the Danish State of approx. a total of 4.4 mill. DKK.
DATS has a secretariat in Rødekro in the southern part of Jutland with five people employed. DATS also have four professional theatre advisors based at there home but working all over the country within the field of adult theatre, children and youth theatre, independent theatre and stage and visual design.
DATS makes lobbying for the amateur theatre by keeping contact with the national cultural politicians, the Danish Ministry of Culture and the press and by drawing the attention to the work and activities of DATS.
DATS has international contacts and arrange exchanges and international theatre festivals etc. through our network in AITA/IATA - international Anateur Theatre Association, NEATA - North European Theatre Alliance, NAR - Nordic amateur theatre alliance and EDERED - European Drama Encounter Recontres de Drama.
